Stories and tales, menus and facts and rumor and history, legends and accounts, numbers and humors. An entry for each day, month by month, suited to the months. Sometimes you will get behind and read four or five, from Grover Cleveland to Julia, from Turgenev to cafe au lait, from Waverly Root to sachertorte, from lemons to Peking duck, from Jonathan Swift to Alice Waters to even watermelon.

Often, it is how I prepare for the month, a review of the tales that made an October, or the tomatoes and Montmartre of an August. Time with tales and cooks.

Parmesan cheese - straw colored, moist and crumbly, it should properly not be cut from a wheel with a knife but scored and then pried off in chunks as if being quarried

Knives, chickpeas, polpettone, honey, Anna Karenina, ,blueberries, Chateau d'Yquem, truffles, apples, turkey and swans, mustard and spoons. A thousand  details, as life is meals. Often, I will read an entry that I have read before, yet it will seem that I have only just met.
