Dear to Me: Peter Zumthor in Conversation

Dear to Me is a document of four months at the Kunsthaus Bregenz, using the house of art to become a house of culture. Inviting various and sundry to come, to be interviewed with Zumthor on their work.To talk how they got there. To tell of the twenty five Polish bricklayers from the Cracow region, who spoke not a word of German, who worked 15 months on the perfect project in Cologne, and in the end, tossed Zumthor in the air to celebrate. No one would do this, to this precision.. Yet, in a way, they now might. There could, one day, be an edition of Dear to Me that was blank, for the account of your own records. Of what was dear to you. Eighteen 24 page paper staple bound documents, recording each dialogue. Each precisely the same size, the box to hold and store all eighteen. “The twentieth century is deeply hostile to history.” It is expensive, it is petite, and precise, and it is lovely.
