A wonderful, big, University Press book that has quietly become important, and honored. It is the study of two hundred years of scientific research and how that so profoundly affected, influenced, inspired and was expressed within modern art. It was the nakedness beneath the eye, beneath the soil, behind the plants, across the universe, within the microscosm that brought the passion of a new view, whether from the Impressionists or the Surrealists or the Abstractions.
