A very lovely new edit of a classic - and in this case, it is an edition that has expanded the original. The new edition is generously larger, beautifully printed in Zurich, all the drawings have been reworked. Blaser had visited Japan first in 1953, traveling there after having worked and studied in Chicago. When he returned to Basel, he organized an exhibit, with Hofmann and Lohse, to show his photographs and drawings of Japanese residential architecture. It was clear to Blaser the distinct relation of modernism to Japanese aesthetics and structure - as was the obvious connection to the Farnsworth House and Mies van der Rohe.
